In January 2016, the Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums Volunteer Co-ordinator was asked by the Guardian newspaper to write an article about volunteers in the museum sector. It was a challenge to fit all the wonderful stories about our volunteers into a limited word count! The article, by Rachel Baron, is featured in the Culture Professional Network section of the Guardian website.
As part of this article we were also asked to select a volunteer to write a piece about their experiences, and more than one member of staff suggested that this should come from Jack Walton. Jack volunteers in the Archives and also with our Boxes of Delight loans service, and recently won the North East Volunteer Award for Outstanding Contribution from a Young Volunteer.
