Regular Help

Friends of Discovery Museum, Machine Maintainers

Friends of Discovery Museum (FODM'S) are a group of retired professional engineers who look after many of the exhibits in the museum in terms of repair, cleaning and refurbishment, as well as suggestions for new exhibits and engaging with visitors about the exhibits.

We normally meet on a Tuesday at the museum. Please click here for more information about FODMS

What's involved?

We are looking for additional volunteers to help with our work, either as a one off or an on-going basis. The work will consist of cleaning, lubrication and maintenance of the operating engines as well as repairs to other exhibits.

We are particularly interested in anyone who has microcomputer experience, especially PIC's and similar devices as these were used in some exhibits that we wish to return to operation.

If you have a CV please forward it to volunteering@twmuseums.org.uk, it will help us to know a little more about you.

Why get involved?

At Discovery Museum you can immerse yourself in the history of Newcastle and Tyneside told through permanent displays and temporary exhibitions over three floors focusing on the area's martime, scientific and technological importance to Britain and the rest of the world.

You will be volunteering and working with FODM and Museum professionals who do a much needed and respected job of keeping our collections in order.

*Please note: we are happy to cover any volunteer transport costs involved with this role.
