Give a Day or Two

Social Sewing at the Shipley

We have a huge handmade cotton play mat which is beautifully appliqued with animals and flowers. It needs some light repair work (e.g. re-attaching parts that have come slightly loose) and there is room to add some of your own decorations. With its wonderful colours and textures, it’ll be really enticing for the babies who come to our ‘Creative Baby Sensory Play’ sessions at the gallery.

Sessions take place on the following dates and you can come to one or both:

Tuesday 19 June, 1.30pm – 3.30pm

Tuesday 26 June, 1.30pm – 3.30pm

What's involved?

We’re looking for a team of crafty sewers to do some repair work on this textile piece, and ensure the buttons and beads are well attached and safe for the babies. It’s really large, with lots of detail, so we need a good team of crafters to work on it together.  There will also be the opportunity for you to add more decorations to the piece using our stash of gorgeous fabrics and beads.

  • Hand sew on a large appliqued textile piece.
  • Repair the existing sewing, to ensure all beads and buttons and loose fabric is well attached and safe for babies to play on.
  • Add your own decorations to the piece if you wish.

Why get involved?

This is an opportunity to socialise with other crafters and work on a large textile piece together. You will contribute to creating a wonderful resource for the gallery to use with its youngest visitors. There is also the option to come along to the Creative Baby sessions where it’ll be used – so you can see it being enjoyed!

*Please note: we are happy to cover any volunteer transport costs involved with this role.
